“Cinderella Texas” is a contemporary western romance with an unexpected twist. Imagine if you will an extremely wealthy Texas ranching family who have decided to forego all the modern trappings of electricity, cell phones, television, etc. except for what is required for business – and that at a different location than their home. Then imagine a 100% citified young woman accepting a job as teacher to two young children of the rancher but doesn’t realize how they live until she arrives at the ranch. Uh-huh, makes a pretty interesting scenario, doesn’t it.Needless to say, the scene was obviously set for some humor, especially when heroine Alyson seemed to be somewhat accident prone. Of course a little romance would also be expected. Rancher Quatro Greene was pretty appealing despite his somewhat antiquated living conditions and he found Alyson equally attractive. This always entertaining novel was laced with conversations about faith which led Alyson and Quatro to greater understanding of each other.
I particularly liked that each of them was willing to not only listen to the other but to learn from each other as well. As a result, positive changes were made by both without compromising their beliefs.
“Cinderella Texas” is a fun book with plenty of “meat” to chew on. I recommend it to those who enjoy westerns but also for those looking for something a little different.

When Quatro hires Alyson as a homeschool teacher for his children, she experiences culture shock. She's a city girl who likes shopping and expects a wealthy rancher to provide her accommodations in a luxurious mansion with every modern convenience. He's a working rancher who doesn't allow things like phones, computers, or vehicles in his personal life, which means the new teacher has to live in way that's totally foreign to her.
However, they share the one thing that is most important in a Christian relationship--strong faith.
The story is a fun read, light-hearted and often humorous--put-a-smile-on-your-face humorous rather than laugh-out-loud humorous. But the Christian values and faith come through effectively because of who the characters are and how they live their lives.
Definitely different. A modern day female ends of going to SW Texas to homeschool 2 kids. There father is really good looking but then she finds out they believe in living simply- no electricity, etc. But their business office does have electricity to recharge her phone, etc. - but even it - you have to ride a horse or ride in a wagon to get there.
She is really against living without - but then becomes to like this simple living and their strong faith in God and Jesus Christ. - But then a former girlfriend (his neighbor) shows up. There is always something going on (she falls out of the wagon & onto a prickly pear (yeah -hurts); he breaks a leg; a fire starts on the house, etc. & keeps you interested especially when she tries not to show her love for him while he is doing the same thing.
** I could really get into the simple living because that is what I would like - except would want generators -especially in the winter! ***
Cinderella Texas by Molly Noble Bull is one of the newest published books by this author (2017). Both main characters love the Lord and are Christians, but have chosen vastly different lifestyles for themselves. The disparity makes this a unique type of story. The issues are not a matter of right and wrong; rather their choices are what places a wall between the two. The conflict/resolution issue in this story is still emotional, a matter of finding a place, a middle road, in which to meet. How they do this is what drives this story forward.
Alyson Spencer was a city girl, through and through. She was born, reared and educated in Dallas, TX and preferred living there. She never expected to get work anywhere else. When nothing else she wanted turned up, she took a job teaching a rancher's children at his home. But she was not prepared for the desolation of the location in southern Texas and the distinct lifestyle of the family there. There were no modern conviences at all. She'd signed a contract for a year of teaching without knowing this ahead of time, so how would she be able to endure the deprivation?
Quatro Greene, Alyson's employer and widowed father of her two new students, looked too young to have children. What was unsettling was his wealth. Yet he didnt live like a wealthy man. Neither did his family. They chose this nearly Amish-like lifestyle as a means of practicing their faith. Alyson respected that. It even intrigued her. Yet she just wasn't certain it was a lifestyle she could adapt to within a year. The only thing she and Quatro had in common were a love for his children and a love for God. Quatro on the other hand, was a confusing person. His feet were planted in two different worlds his personal life and his business life. How did he live with that?
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The author's writing style mixes well the serious issues with humor at the quandry Alyson finds herself in. If you like Amish fiction reads, then some aspects of this genre may be familiar to you. However, the mixing of two worlds is the main issue, making this book more unique. That's the feature I like the best.
Alyson's character is well developed in this story. I wish, however, we could see a little more inside Quatro's head. It would flesh out the development of characters more thoroughly than was there. I wanted to know more about his struggles and how he balanced his worlds. The resolution put forth in this book could make an interesting part two. I can also see how you could develop a sequel to this book by amplifying any resolution with more details. I hope the author will consider this idea.
